Why this workshop?

The fundraising climate is continually evolving. The same old way of fundraising just doesn’t cut it anymore.
Donors are more discerning and savvier. They are busier than ever and there are more non-profits all
competing for the same charitable dollars. Fundraisers need to adapt to this ever-changing climate. Donors
don’t want to waste time. They want to be in control. They need to feel that they are being heard.

The solution:

To maximize their fundraising potential, fundraisers need to get donor’s attention quickly, build trust faster and connect with donors on a deeper emotional level.

Donors are being bombarded by people that don’t spend time (or receive the training) to build better communication skills. Fundraisers who continual hone their communication skills separate themselves from the pack. A big part of being a better communicator requires a more conversational approach that puts donors at ease and lets them know they are in control.

What attendees will learn in this Workshop:

Donors are attacked by Robo callers all day long. What do we say and how do we speak in a way that separates us from the pack and allows us to connect quickly with donors over the phone? Attendees will learn new ways to speak with donors on the phone (and email) to increase their success rate of getting more visits and developing long distance relationships with donors who they are not able to visit with face to face.

Never take away a donor’s right to say no. Don’t make decisions for your donors and always allow your donors to “do business the way they want to do business”. We’ll discuss practical methods to show donors that while we have needs, goals and a process, it’s about helping them accomplish their goals first.
Having all the questions can often be more powerful than having all the answers. Giving away one’s hard earned money is an emotional decision, not an intellectual one. We’ll spend time developing better questions that take a conversation from intellect to emotion.
Everyone thinks they are a great listener. The reality is that daily pressures and distractions can make it challenging to be completely present with donors. Attendees will discover how to listen in a way that encourages donors to say more and feel comfortable discussing matters they are not willing to share with others.
People like to spend time, do business with, people they feel are like them and are easy to relate to. Attendees will be introduced the science of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). We’ll practice matching and mirroring. Research shows that matching and mirroring—copying other people’s body language, mannerisms, and repeating their words— helps build trust and establishes rapport.
